    Classic match for rich stews, rare lamb, beef or springbok fillet, and other venison dishes.


    Tasting Notes:

    Shimmering with black berry and cherry flavours, Hartenberg’s 2005 vintage is renowned for its full-bodied and complex richness. Soft and delicious, the king of red wine.

    Food Matching:

    Grilled or roasted game fish (without a lemon-based sauce), pizza (not too much chilli), stews, grills. For pudding - pears in red wine, particularly if the red wine used is this wine.


    Tasting Note:

    Peppery and spicy with rich berry aromas and fruit flavours, this wine has style and elegance that belies its price. You'd be pressed to find a better value for money red wine in South Africa.

  3. Merlot

    2005 vintage received the trophy for Best Merlot in the World at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in England.


    Food Matching:

    Game, lamb and beef dishes of all kinds.


    Tasting Note:

    A silky and elegant food wine, with lingering flavours suggesting roasted spice, prosciutto, and orchards of plum. This year, the IWSC in England adjudged Hartenberg’s 2005 Merlot to be the finest example of this cultivar in the world.

  4. Pinotage

    This Vintage: 3,5 Stars in Platters SA Wine Guide (2008). 2004 Vintage received trophies for “Best of Cultivar” and “Discovery of the Show (Best Value)” at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show (2007).


    Food Matching:

    Bobotie, oxtail, game fish, stews, even oysters (well chilled).


    Tasting Notes:

    With last year's vintage winning “Best of Cultivar” and “Discovery of the Show (Best Value)” at the Trophy Wine Show, this is definitely one to try, whether you’re a Pinotage fan or not. Outgoing, with delicious berry fruits, a smooth palate, and good underlying structure.

    Roast duck, meat pasta or risotto, lamb chops, sautéed wild mushrooms.


    Tasting Notes:

    A voluptuous wine with rich concentrated spice, plumminess and big, but subtle tannins. Hartenberg’s flagship cultivar, with enough credentials to fill a cabinet.
